The Path of Parenthood

March 2026

It feels like we have 3 babies. Baby Carter, Nina is recovering, and I'm learning how to be a Dad and a better husband.

Where We’ve Been

One month of being parents. I completely understand how some people’s lives seem to revolve around their children. They bring so much joy and laughter while taking so much time and attention.

We have been so fortunate to receive such an overwhelming amount of support for us becoming first-time parents. So many people made us home-cooked meals, sent us money for takeout, left us flowers, and brought Carter little gifts. I was still holding out hope that some wise men would show up with gifts of gold 😉…

Family also came out to shower us in love. My parents helped watch all 4 of our nieces and nephews so our sister-in-law, who is a Doula, could help Nina out postpartum! The following week, Nina’s side of the family came out. It was such a blessing to get a few more hours of sleep.

Where We’re Going

One more month of hunkering down at home. My parents and sister are going to come out and visit, which is always such a great excuse to get out and enjoy where we live.

Our walks are getting longer. Our outings from the house are getting farther away. We’re each getting to go on solo adventures to hang out with friends while the other hangs out with baby Carter.

Once Nina gets cleared by the doctors, the hope is to get back out on the slopes and start going on small adventures before all of our off-season trips! This really is the calm before the storm when we hit the ground running and return to travel next month with 3 potential trips!

What We’re Learning

We’re learning how to operate in grace and peace while completely exhausted. It’s easy to forget that Nina and I are on the same team when it feels like we have to “divide and conquer.” My Dad always told me that “marriage confronts your selfishness—and parenthood kills it.” I think what we’re running into is just that, our own selfishness.

The Bible talks about kids being a blessing. Carter is just that. Even when I’m tired of changing diapers or just want to work, I have to remind myself to treasure this special time. She’s only this small once, and one day I’m going to miss these days when she’s fallen asleep on my chest.

Psalm 127:3-5: "Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior, are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them."

In Case You Missed It

I’m finally getting around to rolling out the New Zealand vlogs! Who would’ve thought that my editing time would be drastically reduced by having a newborn? 🙃

Thanks for being so patient!
