One Day... is today

January 2026

I have lived my entire life thinking… “one day…” and I’m living it.

Where We’ve Been

One whole month… in the same spot. We had forgotten how nice it is to be home. December has been spent making our new spot exactly that—a home. In the home stretch before baby arrives, we’re dotting our i’s and crossing our t’s, making sure that we’re ready for this next phase of life.

Some of our most visited spots around town have been Ace Hardware, the cardboard recycling bin, and church. Our bodies are sore and tired from late nights assembling furniture, breaking down boxes, and washing/learning how to use all the baby gear (parenting a baby is like a whole new sport/hobby/activity).

It was also our first Christmas that we spent away from family. The mailing gifts and the opening of presents over FaceTime was definitely a new experience. Hopefully, more of the one-and-done kind. There was also NO SNOW. The lack of snow felt very odd for a Wyoming winter —first time since the 1970s, actually…

Where We’re Going

Nina has entered full-nesting mode. Black Friday was quite timely for filling our new space with furniture and decor to really make it feel like home. This winter will be uncharted territory for us as we begin creating more family and lifestyle content. Not only am I excited to be a Dad, but I cannot wait to capture so many special and funny moments with Baby!

What about skiing? Nina may be on the sidelines for the start of the season, but she is motivated to get out there by the Spring for our trip to Vail! Since this is our first season in 5 years not working at a local resort, I am expecting to have my biggest backcountry (and maybe cross-country) skiing season ever!! I hope that having to work for my turns will keep me motivated to stay in good shape.

Other than that, we will be hunkered down at home. Nina will be resting and both of us will be learning how to do this parenting thing! Do y’all have any advice you wish you knew before having your kids?

What We’re Learning

There is peace in preparation. Yet, hustling and not prioritizing rest can also take its toll. We’ve been struggling to get back into our Sabbath rhythm with the move and baby prep. It’s always tempting to blame the “season” of life that we are in and use that as an excuse not to rest. However, I can imagine how busy the Lord was creating the world in 6 days, yet He still prioritized time to rest.

A small win in this vein has come from the breath training exercises Nina and I have been going through as part of labor prep. We learned that Nina had never been taught how to actually take a deep breath. What?! In these small practice sessions, I find myself doing breath prayers, speaking over myself, Psalm 23:1-2.

The Lord is my shepherd… I shall not want… He makes me lie down in green pastures… he leads me beside quiet waters…
